Wash out resistance test

Washability (SAE J2260 BMW PR563) or determination of extractables
from lines in contact with fuels:
The fuel lines are completely filled with the test fluid. Air pockets should be avoided. The fuel lines should be pressure sealed with tube caps (such as Swagelok). An interaction of the tube caps with the test fluid is, e.g. stainless steel. The filled fuel lines should be stored in an explosion-proof forced air oven at (60 3) C for 96 hours. After storage, store the fuel lines at room temperature (23 2 C) and allow to cool The fuel lines must be emptied into a closable glass bottle immediately after cooling to room temperature (23 2 C), but after a maximum of 60 minutes. The fuel lines should be rinsed with exactly 20 ml of test fluid. For this purpose fill the rinsing liquid into the pipe and let it flow back and forth several times. The amount of rinsing must also be emptied into the glass bottle. The sealed glass bottle should be stored for 24 h at room temperature (23 2 C).

Determination of insoluble constituents:
A filter paper (polyethersulfone PES, mesh size of 0.45 m) and a beaker are weighed. The weight should be 0.1 mg (filter paper) or 1 mg (beaker). The lines to be tested must not contain any dirt. Therefore rinse with test fluid once before. Likewise, FAM B must not contain any dirt. Filter at 0.45 micron. Filter the stored test fluid through the weighed filter paper and collect in the weighed beaker. Supportive vacuum can be used. The glass bottle is rinsed with at least 20 ml of test liquid and filtered as well. The filter paper is loosely covered in a Petri dish and dried for 24 h at room temperature (23 2 C). The weight of the dried filter paper is again determined to be 0.1 indicate mg.

Determination of the soluble components:
The beaker with the filtered test liquid is loosely capped at room temperature (23 2 C) until constant weight, but at least 24 h. The weight of the beaker is determined again and should be 1 mg.

Reference measurement:
In order to exclude a falsification of the results by a contaminated test liquid a reference measurement is to be carried out. For this purpose, the test liquid is also subjected to storage and filtration. The amount of the test liquid corresponds to the capacity of the tested line, i. 56.5 ml plus 20 ml flush volume for a 2 m long 8x1 line. The weight differences are also determined for the reference measurement.

Evaluation and results:
according to the standard (BMW PR 563)

Standards: VW-TL 52719, VW 52712, BMW PR 563, SAE J2260
